Yes, this blog is mainly filled with quilting shares and tutorials, but if you have been around awhile, you know that I also LOVE to knit. I taught myself how last year, using you tube and other online resources. I immediately fell in love with the craft and it has been my go to traveling project as well as what I do every evening while catching up on TV.
I have been a reader of LovintheMommyhood forever….WAY before I learned to knit. Shannon is such a multi-talented gal, and creates some beautiful pieces. One of her strengths is knitting, she has all sorts of patterns, knit alongs and recently a new book!
Shannon paired up with Jane Richmond to create this seriously AMAZING book! I first found Jane when I was looking for sweater patterns on Ravelry (That reminds me, I still need to start that sweater!) Jane has such a good eye and really creates fresh, modern patterns for hand knits that people would actually really want to wear.
The first thing that caught my eye in this book was the photography. Even if you are not a knitter, you could get lost in the seriously gorgeous photos of the projects, by photographer Nicholas Kupiak. The first half of the book is full of these photos, really more of a coffee table book instead of a knitting pattern book.
Island has such a variety of projects, and I think each and every one is on my to knit list! Up first, for me is the Rathtrevor wrist warmers. I even happened to pick up the perfect yarn when I was in New York!
And the Grace cardigan, oh my! Such a beautiful knit!
The patterns are all very detailed and written in a way that even a beginning knitter can jump in create their own hand knit beauty!

I like ARBUTUS best.
Thanks for the chance!
I really like the Arbutus, but can certainly see myself knitting the Rathtrevor also! Thanks so much!
Grace for me! I am totally digging cardigans right now. Thanks for the chance to win a copy of Island!
All her patterns are lovely, but I really like Arbutus!
I really like the Renfrew hat.
I have all of them in my queue but haven’t bought the book yet. I think I would start with Grace. Thanks for the chance!
Thanks for the chance to win. I really like Arbutus, but Rathtrevor would be perfect right about now
I met both Shannon and Jane at KnitCity this year in Vancouver and both are wonderful women. I too have followed luvinthemommyhood for some time now and am learning to knit with the help of the internet and a very talented friend.
I love Grace and Strathcona! All of them are really pretty though. Wonderful!
My favorite project from Island is: Grace, but I love them all!
I love Grace and Arbutus! Thanks for the chance!
My hands have been freezing lately so I’m really liking Rathrevor! Thanks for the giveaway
My favorite is Grace– it looks so wearable
So hard to pick a favorite! I think the first thing I would cast on for if I won the book is Strathcona, but my favorite is probably Grace. I love lightweight sweaters but all of my store-bought (read: non-wool) ones are so chilly. I think Grace would be perfect for wearing just about anywhere.
Oh to pick one, Strathcona, simply lovely!
I am on my second Jane Richmond design the Oatmeal sweater. I just love her simple yet stylish designs that won’t go out of style. I love the wrist warmers. I saw a pair that someone knitted on Raverly and they called them Salt and Pepper, delectable!
I like the look of Arbutus, very cute
Not a knitter but IF I did knit, I’d go with Arbutus. I’m just here to tell you that I love the new blog makeover !! Looks awesome!
I love this collection by Jane Richmond. She has such a classic style. I am especially loving the Grace cardigan. I can see myself knitting every pattern in this book!
Oh my heart. I have wanted this book since I first saw it on her blog. The Grace cardigan is simply Devine!
The hat is my favorite, I love that one cable going pup at the side.
What beautiful items! I’d love to make the Strathcona, it’s so lovely. The Arbutus and Renfrew would make an awesome set!
Thank you, Shannon and Jane for an awesome giveaway and a chance to win.

I would dearly love to win! I cannot choose my favourite: I would have to close my eyes and pick one at random – but that would mean having the book on my lap…..
Beautiful projects! Difficult to choose just one but GRACE is my favourite
. thanks for this chance to win
I love the Grace sweater best.
LOVE the Grace….but Strathcona is a really cool pattern as well………….
I love Grace!!
I love the Grace cardigan. Thanks for the giveaway!
I am so into cowls right now I would love to knit Arbutus!
The more I look at the Renfrew hat, the more I feel I must knit it
Grace is my fave.
I love all of Jane’s patterns, and love that I live in the same city as her! I have Grace lined up first to try from Island, thanks for the chance!
What a beautiful collection of knits. I really like Strathcona but would also knit Grace in an instant!
I first saw Jane’s Grace cardigan pattern on Ravelry and really liked it but only recently found her blog, which led me here
I really enjoy visiting all these new blog sites. Yay yarn and knitting and people who love it.
I love Grace, but I am also somewhat obsessed with knitting Arbutus. What a perfect use for a skein of Tosh DK!
I love all Jane Richmond creations but I choose Arbutus!
Oh I so want to make Grace. I know I can knit a sweater I just know it.
The Strathcona scarf looks like a winner to me. I love the lacy middle with the solid ends. So cool!
I could see eventually making them all but starting with Arbutus.
I would LOVE to knit and wear Arbutus, how gorgeous!!!
Arbutus is lovely!
What a wonderful giveaway!
I`d love to knit the Arbutus cowl. It looks really cute. Right now I am working on a cowl.
Man, they all look wonderful! Eye-ing Renrew though
First, I’d want Strathcona, then Arbutus — for myself. I’ve been getting a lot of questions about slouchy hats lately, so I think I’d work up multiples of Renfrew for my friends.
I love Arbutus but all the designs are lovely.
That books looks great and I like all the patterns but my favourite is Rathtrevor (I love fingerless mitts!)
Renfrew is my favourite.
I love the Grace cardigan as well. I also really appreciate the Moonrise Kingdom nod in the first photo as well.
Thanks for the chance!
