Farmer’s Wife: I’m back!

I haven’t made a FWSQ block in such a long time.  I was over those silly templates, but it was the only way I knew how to make the blocks.  Over time I was getting more and more bored with these blocks, cutting out the pieces with the templates was just taking too much time when I could be making something else.  It was sad since I was 25 blocks in, and I really like the quilt.

So one morning I woke up and knew I had to learn to paper piece the blocks.  I read up on paper piecing all day and it started to click.  It clicked enough to give it a try at least.  So I signed up for the Yahoo! Group, got the templates and sat down to work.  On my first try I did it (and on a tough block too!)  I must say I’m quite proud of myself!  I have since made 4 blocks this week and am excited to “catch up” with life on the farm!

Block 26: Cut Glass Dish

This block was my first ever foundation paper pieced block.  This was the one that had my stuck and motivated me to learn.  I did not want to cut out all those tiny little triangles!

Block 27: Darting Birds

Here was my second go at PP a block.  It went so much faster than the first and was even more fun!  I’m getting the hang of this.  It’s still not perfect, but it’s getting better!

Block 28: Duck and Ducklings

I had fun piecing this one.  It went by super fast and was all around enjoyable.  Plus I love that purple dot from AMH Bohemian line!

Block 29: Economy

This block I went back to the templates since it was SO simple, would have been a waste of paper to print the PP template.

There’s my week’s progress on the FWSQA.  At this rate I’ll be all caught up with the group despite my month (or more) off!

These are beautiful. I love how you’ve taken these traditional blocks and made them look more contemporary. Your blocks make me want to do the farmers wife qal. They did inspire me to buy the book, but I haven’t started them. :) keep up the great work!

Your blocks look great! I have to say that if I were doing it, I would have completely abandoned ship by now, so it’s good to see you sticking with it!
